WB / CLIENT PORTALS
Client portal development for secure customer access
Give customers one secure place to see their own information
WebBoss builds client portals where customers, members or partners sign in to see their own records, documents and progress, while staff keep that information up to date from the same system.
Discuss this project01 / THE WORK
Decide who sees what before any screen is designed
A portal is mostly a permissions problem. Each type of user needs a clear view of their own information and nothing else, and the staff who maintain that information need a simple way to keep it current.
A strong fit when
- 01Customers email or phone for updates that already exist in your system
- 02Documents are sent as attachments and then lost in inboxes
- 03Members or partners need their own login with limited access
- 04Staff update the same status in several places
02 / WHAT IS INCLUDED
A build you can understand, operate and continue.
- 01Account sign in, roles and permission rules
- 02Customer, member or partner dashboards
- 03Document sharing and download areas
- 04Reporting views built on your own data
- 05Staff screens to manage accounts and content
03 / HOW THE BUILD WORKS
How a client portal build works
Production work is split into agreed stages with a written scope, payment points and acceptance criteria.
- 01
Understand the work
Map each type of user, what they need to see or do after signing in, and where that information lives today.
- 02
Agree the first scope
Write down what the first release includes, what waits for later, the price and the review points. Discovery is normally paid in advance.
- 03
Build and demonstrate
Review working screens for each type of user at agreed stages, so misunderstandings surface while they are still cheap to fix.
- 04
Release and support
Plan testing, launch, monitoring, documentation and the route for later changes.
04 / WHAT IT IS BUILT WITH
What the portal is built with
- Framework
- Laravel on PHP
- Screens
- Blade templates and Tailwind CSS, or a Next.js and React front end where the portal needs one
- Database
- MySQL or MariaDB
- Hosting
- cPanel Linux hosting
Where the data lives in another system, the portal reads it through that system’s API, which is checked in discovery first.
05 / WHAT AFFECTS THE COST
What affects the cost of a portal
Client portals start at £3,500, with typical delivery in 4 to 14 weeks.
That covers a defined first scope. These are the things that move a written quote above the starting figure.
- Number of user types and the permission rules between them
- Documents, uploads and file storage
- Reporting views and the data behind them
- Integration with the system that holds the data today
- Security, audit and compliance requirements

06 / RELATED PROJECT
Holiday Friend Finder
A Laravel 12 application with verified parent accounts. Each family signs in to add its trip, see families travelling to the same resort and message them privately.
See the Holiday Friend Finder project07 / PRACTICAL QUESTIONS
Before the first workshop
Can different customers see different information?
Yes. Each account sees only the records it is allowed to see. The permission rules are agreed in discovery and tested before launch.
Can the portal share documents?
Yes. Staff can make documents available to a named customer, who downloads them after signing in instead of receiving them as email attachments.
Can it show data from our existing system?
Often, where that system provides a reliable API or export route. Integration limits are checked during discovery rather than promised blindly.
Is a portal the same as a CRM?
No. A CRM is used by your staff to manage enquiries and customers. A portal is what your customers sign in to. The two can share the same data.
